Brantmeier & Tanguilig Named First-Team Academic All-America; Brantmeier Academic All-America Of The Year
June 3, 2025 | Women's Tennis, Academics
Four standouts on the court and in the classroom - University of North Carolina's Reese Brantmeier, Southern Arkansas University's Amelie Gindl, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges' Angie Zhou and Loyola University New Orleans' Lucy Carpenter - highlight the 2024-25 Academic All-America women's tennis team selected by College Sports Communicators, announced today.
Brantmeier (Division I), Gindl (Division II), Zhou (Division III), and Carpenter (NAIA) have each been named Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for their respective divisions.
Tar Heel senior Carson Tanguilig joins Brantmeier as a first-team Academic All-America.
Division I
Brantmeier, a junior from Whitewater, Wis., has a 3.95 GPA, majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and Studio Art. She was the recipient of the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis NCAA Elite 90 award and was the ACC's Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Brantmeier, ranked No. 7 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in singles, wrapped up an All-America season with an 18-2 mark at the No. 1 position for the Tar Heels. She went 24-5 in doubles during the spring, finishing the season at No. 2 nationally with Alanis Hamilton to earn her second All-America accolade from the ITA.
Brantmeier was the match-clinching point for the Tar Heels in April as they won their second consecutive ACC title. In 2024, she saw her season cut short due to injury, but earned ITA All-America honors, achieving a No. 9 ranking in singles with a 20-3 record and a 23-2 record in doubles action, where she was ranked No. 5 alongside Elizabeth Scotty. As a true freshman in 2023, Brantmeier ended the regular season ranked No. 9 in both singles and doubles, claiming ITA All-America honors
The University of Kentucky's Zoe Hammond is the lone member of the Academic All-America NCAA Division I women's tennis team to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA in her undergraduate work. The six members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.76.
Six student-athletes are repeat selections on the Academic All-America Division I women's tennis team – Stanford's Connie Ma, UCLA's Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer, Miami's Alexa Noel, South Carolina's Sarah Hamner, Texas A&M's Mary Stoiana and Georgia's Dasha Vidmanova. Ma was the 2023-24 Division I Women's Tennis Team Member of the Year, while Hamner is a three-time selection.
