Five Tar Heels To Represent U.S. At PALA Women’s Championship

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse program has had five Tar Heels selected to represent the United States in the Pan-American Lacrosse Association (PALA) Women's Championship later this month in Auburndale, Fla. Current Carolina players Sam Forrest and Chloe Humphrey will make their national team debuts and be joined by three veterans in Ally Mastroianni, UNC assistant coach Marie McCool and Caylee Waters.
Matroianni, McCool and Waters were all members of the U.S. team that captured the World Lacrosse Women's Championship gold medal in 2022. In addition, McCool was a part of the 2017 World Championship squad.
This marks the first time any of the U.S. national teams will participate in a PALA continental qualifier. The eight-team championship features Argentina, Canada, Haudenosaunee, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico and the United States at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex from June 26-30. The top four finishers will earn spots in the Division I bracket of the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Japan with the next three finishers qualifying for the Division II bracket.
The U.S. has won the last four World Lacrosse Women's Championships, bringing home the title in 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022.
