June 13, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's lacrosse phenom Chloe Humphrey has been named the winner of the Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse, Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA), announced on Friday. Humphrey adds this prestigious award to her trophy case after earning the Tewaaraton Award and IWLCA Player of the Year.
Â
"I would like to thank everyone who supported me for this Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse," Humphrey said. "I am forever indebted to my parents who tirelessly supported my passion, my sisters who taught me the tricks of the trade, my coaches over the years who have refined my game and the best teammates a person could ask for. I'm living a dream right now and I don't want to wake up. I am so incredibly grateful for all of you. I would also like to thank the Honda Award committee for recognizing me. It is a tremendous honor."
Â
Carolina has had two other Honda Award winners in Kara Cannizzaro in 2013 and Jamie Ortega in 2022. The Tar Heels have had six additional finalists in Christine McPike ('02), Amber Falcone ('09), Jen Russell ('10), Marie McCool ('17, '18) and Taylor Moreno ('21).
Â
"We couldn't be prouder of Chloe and all she's accomplished this season," said UNC Head Coach Jenny Levy. "She's an incredibly hard worker, an excellent teammate, and a real competitor. Chloe plays the game with so much joy and you can see that her energy is infectious. She was pivotal to our team's success this season and is being deservedly recognized for those contributions with one of, if not, the most prestigious awards in college sports."
Â
A freshman from Darien, Conn., Humphrey delivered a historic 2025 season, racking up 90 goals and 28 assists for a staggering 118 points. Her 90 goals set a new NCAA freshman record, a UNC single-season record and powered the Tar Heels to their fourth National Championship. A first-team All-American, Humphrey also earned first-team All-ACC honors, ACC Tournament MVP, and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She recorded hat tricks in 18 of 22 games, including nine performances with five or more goals.
Â
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 49 years, recognizing the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and symbolizing "the best of the best in collegiate athletics." The winner was chosen by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution had a vote. The recipient of the sport award becomes a finalist for the prestigious Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the 2025 Honda Cup, which will be presented during the live broadcast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda on June 30, at 7 pm ET, on CBS Sports Network.
