Softball Bows Out Of ACC Tournament

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Despite a heroic pitching performance from Kenna Raye Dark, the Carolina softball team fell to No. 14 Virginia Tech in the ACC Quarterfinals by a score of 4-0.
In the past 24 hours, Dark threw 12.2 innings without allowing an earned run. She threw a complete game shutout on Wednesday and then put up five scoreless innings against one of the best offenses in the nation. In the sixth she faced some trouble after an error and the bases were loaded. She got to two outs but ultimately the Hokies were able to push four unearned across to take a 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the sixth. Dark finished the week 12.2 innings pitched, zero earned runs, and right strikeouts.
The Carolina offense struggled to get going the entire game, only getting one hit from the bat of Kiannah Pierce. The Tar Heels worked three walks but couldn't get anything rolling consistently to get a run across.
Now the Tar Heels await their fate on Selection Sunday to see if they'll hear their names called for the first time since 2019.
