May 28, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's lacrosse standouts Chloe Humphrey and Sam Forrest have earned top honors from the IWLCA, the organization announced on Wednesday. Humphrey was named Player and Attacker of the Year, while Forrest was named Defender of the Year. Humphrey is the third National Player of the Year in UNC history and the first winner of the Attacker of the Year honor. Forrest is the program's fifth Defender of the Year.
Â
Humphrey, the freshman phenom from Darien, Conn., has taken the collegiate lacrosse world by storm. She delivered a historic 2025 season, racking up 90 goals and 28 assists for a staggering 118 points. Her 90 goals set a new NCAA freshman record, a UNC single-season record and powered the Tar Heels to their fourth National Championship. A Tewaaraton Award finalist and first-team All-American, Humphrey also earned first-team All-ACC honors, ACC Tournament MVP, and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She recorded hat tricks in 18 of 22 games, including nine performances with five or more goals.
Â
Forrest, a junior defender from Glastonbury, Conn., has been a cornerstone of North Carolina's elite defense, earning First-Team All-America and First-Team All-ACC honors, as well as a spot among the Tewaaraton Award Top 25 Nominees. She recorded 23 ground balls, 18 caused turnovers, and four draw controls while anchoring a unit that led the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 6.86 goals per game. Forrest is routinely tasked with guarding the opposition's top scorer—and consistently delivers. In the National Championship, she helped hold the nation's leading scorer, Madison Taylor, to zero goals sealing UNC's defensive dominance en route to the title.
