
David Ford Wins Haskins National Player Of The Year Award

The University of North Carolina's David Ford is the winner of the 2025 Fred Haskins Award, presented by STIFEL and the Haskins Foundation to the National Men's Golf Player of the Year.

Ford joins John Inman (1984) as the only Tar Heels to win the Haskins Award, which was first presented to the Player of the Year in 1971.

The award is voted on by golf coaches, players and sports information directors and members of the college golf media.

Other Haskins Award winners include many of the game's most illustrious players, including Ben Crenshaw, Curtis Strange, Brad Faxon, Phil Mickelson, David Duval, Justin Leonard, Stewart Cink, Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, Luke Donald, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Ludvig Aberg.

Ford compiled one of the greatest seasons in Carolina men's golf history as a senior in 2024-25. The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native led the nation in scoring average (68.78) and wins (5) and set Carolina single-season records for scoring, combined score to par (-89), average score to par per round (-2.47) and rounds in the 60s (25).

He was the ACC Player of the Month in October, March and April and finished his career with five Player-of-the-Month awards.

He also set UNC career records for wins (tied with seven), scoring (70.13), combined score to par (-162), average score to par per round (-1.13) and rounds in the 60s (66).

He became the first Tar Heel to win three consecutive tournaments when he won the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational and the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in March-April. In the fall, he won the Hogan Collegiate Invitational and the Williams Cup. It was the second time he won the Williams Cup at Eagle Point.

Ford is the 11th ACC player to win the award, joining Inman, Florida State's John Pak (2021), NC State's Matt Hill (2009), Wake Forest's Bill Haas (2004), Jay Haas (1975) and Curtis Strange (1974), Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder (2001), Kuchar (1998), Cink (1995) and Duval (1994).

He will become the first Tar Heel men's golfer to earn first-team All-America honors in two seasons. The 2025 All-America and ACC awards will be announced at a later date.
