David Ford Wins PGA TOUR U, Earns Playing Card
May 26, 2025 | Men's Golf
North Carolina's David Ford clinched the No. 1 spot in the 2025 PGA TOUR University standings to earn his PGA TOUR card for the rest of this season and all of 2026.
The Tar Heels did not advance out of NCAA regional play to compete in the NCAA Championship, which is ongoing in Carlsbad, Calif. However, Ford still amassed enough points over the previous two years to secure the No. 1 spot.
The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native re-wrote the UNC men's golf record book in four seasons:
• he will become the first to earn first-team All-America honors twice and will receive first-, second- or third-team All-America honors in all four seasons;
• is a finalist for the Hogan, Haskins and Nicklaus National Player of the Year awards;
• set UNC career records for most wins (7), lowest scoring average (70.13), most combined strokes under par (-162), most average strokes below par per round (-1.13) and most rounds in the 60s (66);
• set UNC single-season records in 2024-25 for most wins (5), most consecutive wins (3), lowest scoring average (68.78), most combined strokes under par (-89), most average strokes below par per round (-2.47) and most rounds in the 60s (25);
• was the 2022 ACC Rookie of the Year and 2023 ACC Player of the Year.
• led Carolina to three NCAA top-five finishes, the 2024 ACC Championship and 17 team titles.
Ford is the PGA TOUR University's fifth winner, following Florida State's John Pak in 2021, Texas' Pierceson Coody in 2022, Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg in 2023 and Stanford's Michael Thorbjornsen in 2024.
Carolina's Austin Greaser finished third and Dylan Menante was 15th in 2024, Ryan Burnett was seventh in 2023, Ryan Gerard placed 20th in 2022 and Austin Hitt was 37th in 2021.
