Softball Bests Norfolk State, 12-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Carolina softball (36-14, 12-9) took down Norfolk State (21-18, 14-4) 12-1 in five innings on Wednesday, April 23, ending the 2025 home campaign with a 27-5 record.
Norfolk State opened the game with a run in the first inning, after that run Britton Rogers maneuvered out of the inning with a ground out. Rodgers pitched four scoreless innings after the first. Rodgers' final appearance at home featured five strikeouts over the five innings to earn her eighth win on the season.
Kat Rodriguez continued her historic season by sending the ball over the centerfield wall to notch her 79th RBI of the season in the first inning. The home run gave her the second most RBI in a single season in Atlantic Coast Conference history. The second baseman would end the day with 80 RBI on the season after scoring later in the third. Kiannah Pierce sent Carlie Myrtle home with a double to right center to go up 3-1 in the first as well.
Carolina added three more runs in the second inning courtesy of two doubles from Lexie Roberts and Sanaa Thompson, who moved into fifth all-time for most RBI in a single season in Carolina history with 56.
The bats exploded for five runs in the third inning as Shelby Barbee followed up her walk-off home run against NC State last weekend with a double to drive in two runs. Roberts, Thompson, and Rodriguez all contributed an RBI in the third.
Rachael Fuerst plated her first RBI as a Tar Heel in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center field for the final run of the day in the bottom of the fourth.
Carolina takes on Notre Dame in the final regular season series in Notre Dame, Ind on Friday, April 25 at 5:00 p.m. EST on ACCNX.
