Yeung's Best Leads UNC To Third-Place Finish At Eagle Creek

UNC freshman Helen Yeung tied for third after shooting a final-round 68 in leading the Tar Heels to a third-place finish in the PDI Intercollegiate Tuesday at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando.
 
Yeung's finish is the highest by a Carolina freshman since October 2017, when Ava Bergner tied for third in the Tar Heel Invitational.
 
Carolina shot 11 under par in the third round, which matched Mississippi State for the best score of the final round. The Tar Heels shot 283-280-277 for a 54-hole total of 840, which was a season-best 24 strokes under par and six behind the team champion Baylor.
 
It is the second-best score to par and third-best 54-hole score and in UNC history.
 
Yeung was one of the five starters who all shot below par for the tournament. The Clarksville, Md., native shot rounds of 70-69-68 for 9-under 207, which is the second-lowest 54-hole total by a Carolina freshman. Bergner shot 206 in 2017-18 in the Tar Heel Invitational.
 
Megan Streicher tied for seventh at 8-under 208 with rounds of 70-69-69. It was her fifth top-10 finish in as many starts this season.
 
Inez Ng (72-70-72) and Ing Iadpluem (71-72-71) tied for 36th at 2-under 214. Reagan Southerland (72-74-69)matched her season-low round of 69 today and finished 1 under in a tie for 43rd.
 
Freshman Katie Vu, playing as an individual entry, shot 1-under 71 today.
 
Lauren Clark of Kansas shot 66-67-68 to win the individual title at 15-under 201.
