Valahovic Tabbed ACC Newcomer For Fourth Week In A Row
February 25, 2025 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina gymnastics star freshman JoJo Valahovic has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Newcomer of the Week for an unprecedented fourth time in a row, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Valahovic is the first gymnast in conference history to win more than two ACC Newcomer of the Week honors, let alone four straight. She is also the first student-athlete in program history to win multiple ACC weekly honors in the same season.Â
The Sagamore Hills, Ohio native earned the recognition after her noteworthy performance at NC State on Feb. 21. She collected a trio of runner-up finishes on vault (9.875), beam (9.95) and floor (9.875) against the Wolfpack.Â
Her 9.95 on beam, which is tied for third all-time in school history, matched her career high for the second meet in a row. Her vault and floor scores were just shy of her personal record of 9.9 on both events.Â
She is one of six gymnasts in the ACC to record a 9.95 or higher on beam and the only freshman to do so. Valahovic is also one of 10 gymnasts – and the only rookie – in the ACC to have scored a 9.9 or higher on vault.
The standout freshman has competed on vault, beam and floor in all eight meets thus far. She has earned a 9.9 or better at least once on every apparatus. She leads all Tar Heels with team-high scores on vault (9.9) and beam (9.95).
Valahovic and the 23rd-ranked Tar Heels return to Carmichael Arena on Friday, Feb. 28, for the UNC Quad Meet against Temple, Penn and Yale. Action begins at 6:45 p.m. ET and tickets are available for purchase here.
