Dark Throws Fourth Complete Game Shutout, Softball Beats Maryland, 5-0

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team earned another shutout to remain undefeated at home in a 5-0 win over Maryland.
Kenna Raye Dark was the story of the game. The junior threw her fourth complete game shutout of the season in a five-strikeout gem of a game.
The Tar Heels jumped on the Terps early with a Kat Rodriguez RBI single in the first. She now sits at 18 RBI on the year. Kiannah Pierce hit a sacrifice fly a few batters later to give the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead early.
Both team's pitching settled in after that, throwing up zeros for the next five innings. In the sixth the Tar Heels took full control of the game. Pierce had an RBI single, then Bryten Burns scored on a passed ball. After that Caroline Fox drove in Reece Outlaw to jump out 5-0.
Dark came back out in the seventh and shut Maryland down in order for the 10th win of the Carolina season.
The Mebane, N.C. native now has 36 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched with a 2.67 ERA on the year.
Carolina is back in action tomorrow with a game against Wagner and Queens starting 1:30 PM.
