July 17, 2024 | Women's Rowing
UNC rowing coach Erin Neppel has earned a contract extension through the 2027 season. The Tar Heel alum just finished her third season as head coach at her alma mater.
Â
The Tar Heels placed seventh at the 2024 ACC Rowing Championships, with three of five boats competing in the grand finals and the other two winning their petite finals. Carolina also teamed with Duke to host the Lake Wheeler Invitational, bringing a field of 19 schools to compete in Raleigh in late April. Â
Â
"Erin has our rowing team on the right track, on and off the water," UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said. "I have full confidence in the direction of our program, and I'm happy to have Erin on-board as one of outstanding head coaches."
Â
Among highlights in the 2024 season, the Varsity Eight earned ACC Crew of the Week on April 16th after winning the Class of 2006 Cup by beating Georgetown the previous weekend.Â
Â
As a team, UNC placed fourth overall at the Sunshine State Invite in March after placing all three competing boats in the grand finals during the two-day competition.Â
"I appreciate the confidence that Bubba has shown in me and am pleased about the direction our program is going," Neppel said. "I'm very encouraged by our progress and am excited to continue leading Carolina forward."
