Softball Clinches Georgia Tech Series, 7-2
March 24, 2024 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (22-8, 4-5 ACC) secured the series victory over Georgia Tech (22-12, 8-4 ACC) with a 7-2 win on Sunday afternoon in front of a packed crowd at Anderson Stadium.
After trailing 2-0 early and being held hitless until the fourth inning, the Tar Heels got two on base in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back Yellow Jacket throwing errors.
Redshirt sophomore Isabela Emerling had the first hit of the day for Carolina, a three-run moonshot over the left field fence that gave the Tar Heels a 3-2 lead. She has hit a team-best 10 home runs on the season and tallied 38 RBIs.
It proved to be the momentum shift the team needed as the Tar Heels tallied a combined nine hits in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, plating another two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings.
Bailey McCachren (3-1) earned her first victory in the circle since Feb. 16 and first ever in ACC play, throwing a complete-game and allowing just two earned runs and four hits with a career-best seven strikeouts.
Graduate Abby Settlemyre and senior Carsyn Snead each had a pair of hits in the win, while graduate Autumn Owen and senior Skyler Brooks both had an RBI.
Owen tallied her first triple as a Tar Heel in the fifth inning and ninth in her career, first since 2020, in the fifth inning, scoring Settlemyre.
The Tar Heels will look to carry the momentum in next weekend's home series with Notre Dame starting on Thursday at 5 p.m.
