No. 25 Wrestling Defeats Lock Haven, Falls To Top-15 Ohio State & Iowa State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 25th-ranked North Carolina wrestling program went 1-2 on Saturday in the Collegiate Wrestling Duals, capping off the day by defeating Lock Haven.

The Tar Heels fell to No. 5 Ohio State (23-11) and No.13 Iowa State (23-14), rounding out the day by cruising to a 37-3 win over Lock Haven.

In the opener with the Buckeyes, Carolina picked up wins courtesy of Lachlan McNeil (149), Gavin Kane (184) and Cade Lautt (197).

McNeil collected an 8-2 decision over 12th-ranked Dylan D'Emilio. The win for McNeil was his second-straight ranked victory. Kane, continued his early season success, defeating Ohio State's Seth Shumate by decision, 6-3. Lautt cruised over Cayaen Smith by technical fall, 20-5, to close out the Tar Heel victories.

Against the Cyclones, McNeil (149), Joshua Ogunsanya (174) and Kane (184) earned Tar Heel victories. McNeil controlled Carter Fousek by technical fall, and Kane collected an injury default for Carolina bonus point efforts. At 174, Ogunsanya jumped out to an early lead in the first and never looked back, earning his first win of the year and the first in a Carolina singlet.

In the nightcap, nine Tar Heels collected wins.

Laird Root (157), Collin Carrigan (165) and Robert Platt (197) earned their first dual wins of the collegiate career, with a fall by Root and the duo of Carrigan and Platt collecting decisions.

Moore (125), Ogunsanya (174), Kane (184) and Lautt (285) all collected bonus point wins for the Tar Heels. Rounding out the Carolina efforts by decision was Ethan Oakley (133).
