Softball Falls To South Carolina In Six

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Carolina softball team (7-10) fell on the road to South Carolina (15-2) in six innings on Wednesday night in Columbia.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Gamecock bats got hot in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on five hits and an error to take a 5-0 lead.
The Tar Heels got a run back in the top of the fourth, with Kianna Jones tallying an RBI double down the right field line to score Carsyn Snead making it 5-1.
South Carolina added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits to go ahead 8-1, before ending the game in the sixth inning with an RBI single.
Carolina was outhit 11-4 in the game and committed two errors.
Lilli Backes (3-5) took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs and five hits. Carlie Myrtle pitched two outs of relief, allowing three earned runs, while Kenna Raye Dark pitched the remaining two innings.
Kiersten Licea had a team-best two hits on the night, while Aneshia Jordan and Jones each had a hit apiece.
