
UNC Sixth In Final Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

23rd Top 10 Finish In 28-Year Cup History
The national champion women's lacrosse squad was one of eight Tar Heel teams to finish in the top 10 in NCAA Championship play this season to propel the University of North Carolina to a sixth-place finish in the 2021-22 Learfield Directors' Cup.

This is UNC's 23rd top-10 performance in the 28-year history of the Cup, its fourth time in the top six in the last seven competitions and the 20th time Carolina secured the highest finish among Atlantic Coast Conference institutions.

The Tar Heels totaled 1087.25 points, including 100 for winning the NCAA women's lacrosse title and 90 for the men's basketball team playing in the national championship game.

Texas won the Division I Directors' Cup for the second year in a row as the Longhorns outscored runner-up Stanford by nearly 100 points. The Longhorns amassed 1449.50 points, while the Cardinal were second with 1352.25.

Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, UNC, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Kentucky and Oklahoma round out the top 10.

Joining UNC's women's lacrosse and men's basketball teams with top-10 NCAA Championship finishes this season were women's tennis (third), men's golf (fifth) and baseball, women's basketball, field hockey and men's tennis, which all placed ninth.

Women's cross country and women's swimming and diving were both 14th, men's soccer was 17th and men's cross country and wrestling were 18th.

This is the second consecutive season Carolina has led the ACC and the 20th time overall. No other school has led the ACC standings more than three times.

Carolina is tied for the third-most top 10s in the history of the Directors' Cup. Only Stanford (28) and Florida (28) have more than UNC, which is tied with UCLA with 23. The rest of the ACC has combined for 23 top-10 finishes, including eight by Virginia.
Carolina's average finish in the 28-year history of the competition is seventh place. Virginia is second among ACC schools with an average finish of 15.
