Two Tar Heels Win Titles At F&M Open

LANCASTER, PA. - The No. 20 North Carolina wrestling team opened the new year, winning two titles Friday at the David H. Lehman F&M Open. Eleven Tar Heels combined for eight bonus-point wins and a 20-18 record.
Two UNC wrestlers won championships, including No. 7 Kizhan Clarke at 141 and No. 27 Max Shaw.
Clarke improved his unbeaten record to 8-0 in today's impressive outing. He earned four straight decisions before wrapping the tournament with a convincing 11-2major decision to take the title. Shaw dominated early with two technical fall wins before notching the 197 title with two decisions at the end.
Freshman Spencer Moore had an impressive showing collecting three wins before falling in the fifth-place match. At 285, Brandon Whitman collected a couple of wins before dropping a 2-0 decision in the consolation round of four. Jace Palmer, Lachlan McNeil, and Sonny Santiago also earned wins throughout the day.

North Carolina returns to action Friday, Jan. 21, hosting rival Duke in its ACC opener. The Tar Heels and Blue Devils meet at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena.
