Mac Horvath Homers In 3-2 Loss To UNCG

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina (21-22) fell to UNCG (25-21) 3-2 on Tuesday evening on Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium.
UNCG came out swinging with an early two-run home run in the first inning. After a quiet start for the Tar Heels, Mac Horvath hit a home run in the bottom of the second. UNCG led the Heels 2-1 after the second.
With no score in the third or fourth, Tomas Frick tried to spark the Tar Heel offense with a single in the fifth. The Heels left two runners on base, unable to capitalize. The score remained 2-1 through the top of the eighth.
Brett Centracchio singled to right center in an attempt to give the Heels an edge in the bottom of the eighth. Angel Zarate's single to center field pushed Centracchio to third with a chance to score. Tyler Causey hit an RBI single to allow Centracchio to score and tie the game 2-2. Max Reimer walked to load the bases, but the Heels were unable to take the lead.
The Spartans answered with a run in the top of the ninth to regain the lead 3-2.
Shawn Rapp started on the mound for the Heels and pitched 4.2 innings. He allowed three hits and two runs. Rapp recorded seven strikeouts. Following the Spartans' home run in the first inning, Rapp retired 13 of next 14 batters.
Gage Gillian pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs. Gillian struck out two batters. Caden O'Brien came in to pitch the final two innings. He allowed one hit on one run and recorded two strikeouts.
North Carolina is back in action to start the series against Louisville on Friday, May 14 at 6 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium.
