Softball Falls in Doubleheader at No. 18 Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – Limited to two runs on five hits, North Carolina dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader at No. 18 Clemson on Saturday afternoon.
Although Carolina managed to load the bases in the seventh inning, the Tar Heels succumbed to a 6-1 decision in game one. No. 18 Clemson's momentum picked up in game two, scoring in each inning for the 12-1 win in five innings.
Skyler Brooks singled and scored in game one while Kristina Burkhardt did the same in game two off the bat of Taylor Greene. Six Tigers managed multi-hit games in the doubleheader while Clemson's pitchers struck out 18.
North Carolina (10-11, 6-6 ACC) and Clemson (25-4, 17-4 ACC) wrap up the series Saturday at noon.

» Although Greene threw out the leadoff runner in the first, Clemson scored two runs on a pair of one-run singles for the early lead.
» Brittany Pickett struck out the side in the second.
» After three scoreless innings, the Tigers tacked on a run on back-to-back doubles in the fifth.
» Carolina responded in the fifth with a single by Brooks who capitalized on a Tigers' miscue and came around to score, cutting the deficit to two.
» However, Clemson's Abi Stuart hit a three-run home run in the seventh for a five-run lead.
» Carolina loaded the bases on a walk and back-to-back singles in the seventh, but was unable to capitalize.
» Pickett struck out five in 4.2 innings while Katie Grace Olinger fanned one in 1.1 innings in relief.

» Solo home runs in the first and second gave Clemson the early lead before the Tigers plated six runs on six hits in the third. A pair of RBI-singles and Abi Stuart's three-run triple clinched an eight-run lead.
» Burkhardt broke up the no-hitter in the fourth inning with a single to left field. A single to right field by Greene allowed Burkhardt to score and put Carolina on the board.
» Clemson reclaimed the eight-run lead on a fielding error that allowed the Tigers to score.
» Although Clemson scored four runs on two hits and a pair of errors in the fourth, Carolina turned a double play to end the inning.
» Carolina made contact in the fifth, but went down in order as Clemson earned the win.
