
Countie Earns Bronze, Vazquez Another Gold At ACCs

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Aranza Vazquez won her second gold medal this week and Grace Countie picked up a bronze to highlight North Carolina's effort on Friday during the third day of the 2021 ACC Women's Championship from the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Vazquez, already a gold-medal winner in the 3-meter diving event, picked up another victory in the platform dive with a school-record point total of 337.10. The freshman from La Paz, Mexico, also won the silver in the 1-meter event earlier in the championship.
Countie finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.52 in the finals. Her time of 51.46 in the prelims was the second-best time of the day and the third fastest in school history.
Allie Reiter swam to an 11th-pace finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.68, while Lexi Rudolph finished 17th with a season-best time of 1:01.32.
Ellie Vannote placed 16th in the 100-yard butterfly at 53.38. Her time of 53.05 in the prelims was the ninth fastest time in UNC history. Caroline Cooper finished 23rd at 53.64.
Amy Dragelin was 16th in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:48.48, while Addison Smith was 24th at 1:50.80.
The Tar Heel men top the team standings with 192 points, while the women are in seventh place in the team rankings with 399.5 points.
The fourth and final day of competition gets underway Saturday with prelims of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and men's platform diving starting at 11 a.m.
The diving finals is scheduled for 3 p.m., while the swimming finals starts at 7 p.m. ACC Network Extra has coverage all day from Greensboro.
