May 19, 2019 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Battling their way through the elimination bracket of NCAA Knoxville Regional, the Tar Heels upset No. 11 Tennessee, 1-0 to force a fourth post-season elimination game for the first time in program history. However, the Lady Vols prevailed in the final game of the weekend for the 2-0 win to advance to the Gainesville Super Regional on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Kristina Burkhardt scored UNC's lone run on her second home run of the weekend to lift the Tar Heels over Tennessee in game one. Dealing a no-hitter through five, Brittany Pickett struck out eight and allowed a mere two hits in the win. Pickett returned to the circle in game two, giving up only one extra-base hit. However, Tennessee's Ashley Morgan two-run double secured the Lady Vols the win.
