RALEIGH, N.C. --- Redshirt seniors Troy Heilmann and Ethan Ramos were winners for No. 24 North Carolina in a 26-7 loss at No. 6 NC State Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The host Wolfpack took eight of 10 bouts for their fifth straight dual win in the series. Carolina returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 14, when the Tar Heels host Duke at Memorial Hall for the second Brawl At The Hall.
Ramos, the No. 16-ranked 174-pounder according to InterMat, was dominant in a 17-8 major decision over State's Daniel Bullard. The Hawthorne, New Jersey, product scored seven takedowns and added a reversal in improving to 13-5 and 5-2 in dual competition.Â
NCSU (14-1, 4-0 ACC) ran off the next six matches to take control of the dual. No. 3 Pete Renda and No. 5 Sean Fausz had major decision wins before No. 2 Kevin Jack capped the run with a 4-2 win over No. 19 A.C. Headlee at 141.
Heilmann gave the Tar Heels (8-10, 2-2 ACC) their final victory of the night at 149, controlling the bout throughout in a 5-1 decision over No. 13 Beau Donahue. Heilmann is the first Carolina wrestler to reach 25 wins on the year, and eight of those have come against ranked foes.
No. 3 Hayden Hidlay topped No. 16 Kennedy Monday 12-6 at 157 to close out the dual.Â
