
UNC Faces Tough Field At Duke

The UNC men finished 0-3 and the women 1-4 at the Duke Fencing Home Meet Saturday and Sunday in Durham, N.C. At Card Gym on the Duke campus, the Tar Heel men faced a very tough field on Saturday and the women did the same on Sunday.
In men's action, the Tar Heels went 0-3, falling to host Duke, Penn State and Johns Hopkins. Penn State finished 5-0 on the day, Duke 4-1, Johns Hopkins 2-3, Notre Dame 1-2 and Wayne State 0-3. Penn State claimed all three weapon cups with 40 foil wins, 31 epee wins and 27 sabre wins.
In women's action, UNC topped Wayne State 14-13 and then Notre Dame 16-1, but fell to Penn State, Northwestern and Duke. Duke finished 4-1, Notre Dame 3-0, Northwestern 2-1, Penn State 2-3, UNC 1-4 and Wayne State 0-3 in a tough field. Penn State claimed the foil cup with 28 wins, and Duke won both the epee (35) and sabre (25) cups
