
Four Tar Heels In Women's Top 10 At Temple Open

The UNC women's fencing team opened the 2013-14 season Saturday at the Temple Open with four Tar Heels earning top 10 finishes. Freshman Amanda Lalezarian was fifth in foil, freshman Sarah Hanvy was fifth in sabre, senior Kacie Albert was seventh in epee and freshman Gabrielle D'Astoli was eighth in foil.
The Temple Open, now in its 34th year, includes nearly 600 collegiate fencers representing than 30 schools. Held on the Temple campus in Philadelphia, the event continues on Sunday with the men's competition.
Other Tar Heels competing in foil were freshman Kara Bloomfield in 30th, freshman Amethyst Evans, in 39th, junior Wynton Wong in 43rd, junior Vivian Xu in 58th and sophomore Carly Wooten in 71st.
In epee, sophomore Kelley Hamill was 29th, sophomore Nancy Smith was 41st and junior Sarah Flinn was 47th.
In sabre, junior Maura Thornton was 18th, freshman Caitlin Malone 20th and senior Brie Mittan 22nd.
