
Tar Heels Drop Three At Northeast Duals

TROY, N.Y. - A short-handed North Carolina wrestling team put up a strong fight at the Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. Saturday afternoon. Due to injuries the Tar Heels were forced to forfeit three weight classes on the afternoon as they fell to No. 14 Rutgers, 33-9, No. 20 Penn, 32-12 and No. 6 Lehigh, 27-17.
The underclassmen led the way for the Tar Heels once again as sophomores Brian Bokoski and Corey Mock along with freshmen Evan Henderson and Alex Utley all posted 2-1 marks on the day.
okoski helped spring Carolina to a pair of leads with decisions over Vincent Dellafave (Rutgers) and Geoffrey Bostany (Penn). Mock bounced back from a pin in the opening dual of the day to post a pin of his own against Troy Hernandez (Penn) before registering a 13-2 major decision over Anthony Salupon (Lehigh).
Henderson, Carolina's top wrestler in the early going, posted a decision over No. 15 Billy Ashnault of Rutgers before battling No. 4 Zack Kemmerer of Penn to a decision loss. The setback was Henderson's first of his career but the freshmen bounced back to post a tech fall over Jim Carucci of Lehigh.
Fellow freshman Alex Utley opened with back-to-back decisions over Dan Seidenberg (Rutgers0 and Erich Smith (Penn). Utley then took on the top wrestler in the country at 184 in Lehigh's Robert Hamlin. Utley battled Hamlin to the bitter end before falling by decision, 4-2.
Brock LiVorio posted a tech fall win in the final dual of the day as he posted a 16-0 win over Alex Abreu of Lehigh. Jon Burns also claimed a win for the Tar Heels on the day as he posted a 7-3 decision over Lehigh's Kyle Rosser after dropping his opening two bouts by a combined two points. Burns fell to No. 4 Mario Mason of Rutgers, 3-2, and Steve Robertson of Penn, 4-3.
