No. 22 Navy Tops Tar Heels, 25-9

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 22 Navy picked up a pin from 10th-ranked Matt Stolpinski and a major decision from Antonio Miranda in back-to-back bouts to jump out to a 13-3 lead and held on for a 25-9 victory over North Carolina Saturday at Carmichael Auditorium. Juniors Keegan Mueller and Drew Forshey and redshirt freshman Dennis Drury provided wins for the Tar Heels, who dropped to 4-6 with the loss. The Midshipmen improved to 7-4 with the win.
Mueller and Forshey each notched a pair of wins on the weekend, as Carolina topped rival NC State, 16-14, Friday. Mueller, now a team-best 21-6, got Carolina on the board in the second match of the day with a 2-1 win over Justin Jacobs at 165. The transfer from Ohio State broke a 1-1 tie with a third-period escape to claim his second win of the weekend and improve to 7-2 in dual action.
With the Tar Heels down 13-3, Drury rallied from six points down after the second period for a 10-7 decision over Tyler Moyer at 197. Drury was down 7-1 after two, but scored eight unanswered points on three near falls in the third and added a point for riding time to pick up the win. Drury is now 9-10 on the year.
Forshey picked up the final win of the day for the Tar Heels at 125 with a 3-2 decision against Alex Usztics. The Hickory native scored a second-period takedown and added an escape in the third to move to 13-7 overall and 8-2 in dual action this season.
Navy picked up wins in the two marquee match-ups of the afternoon at 133 pounds and heavyweight. Ninth-ranked Ed Prendergast posted a 7-3 win over No. 8 Spencer Nadolsky after the two heavyweights split a pair of overtime matches earlier this season, and 11th-ranked Joe Baker toppled No. 10 Evan Sola, 5-3, at 133 pounds.
Carolina closes out its home schedule next weekend against Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels host the Cavaliers at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 and the Hokies at 1 p.m. Jan. 27.
