UNC Shuts Out Campbell 1-0, 1-0 in Doubleheader Sweep

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team swept a doubleheader with Campbell on Saturday 1-0, 1-0 at the UNC Softball Complex. UNC sophomore pitchers Crystal Cox and Alison Yin each threw complete game shutouts for the Tar Heels and senior Emily Price hit a solo home run in game two to give Carolina the victory. UNC improves to 42-18 on the year and Campbell falls to 20-36.
Price tied the UNC single-season home run record with her 15th blast of the season. Cox is now the single-season strikeout record holder for Carolina as she struck out 13 in game one to improve her season total to 266.
In game one, UNC got on the board early as senior Dionne Streete led off the bottom of the first with a double and then scored when junior Jessica Young doubled to left field. That was the only run Carolina needed as Cox dominated the Fighting Camels, striking out 13 and allowing just one hit and one walk. She improves to 22-11 on the season and lowered her season ERA to 1.60. Campbell's Kelly Weaver pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks, but took the loss for Campbell.
In game two, Yin kept up the UNC pitching dominance with a shutout of her own. Campbell's Weaver pitched the second game as well and allowed just one run, but again took the loss to drop to 8-22 on the season.
Price scored UNC's only run in the fourth inning as she led off the inning with a solo home run. Campbell tried to rally in the fifth inning as Stephenie Pappas reached third base, but the Camels were unable to bring her home.
Yin improves to 17-7 on the season as she allowed just three hits and no walks and struck out six.
efore game one, Carolina honored its five seniors; Jessica Graziano, Emily Price, Jessica Robinson, Natashalyn Snipes and Dionne Streete. All of the seniors parents were on hand as they were introduced before game one.
Carolina next heads to Tallahassee, Fla for the 2004 ACC Tournament where they will play the winner of the Maryland/Virginia first round contest on Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m.
