
UNC Tops Appalachian State 24-12 in Wrestling

OONE, N.C. - North Carolina wrestling improved to 10-5 this season, defeating Appalachian State (11-2) by a score of 24-12 on pins by sophomore Dustin Heist at 184 and junior Ryan Adams at heavyweight.
Rich Caisse of ASU took Carolina's Chris Rodrigues to overtime in the first match up of the day, topping the Tar Heel by a 4-2 decision.
Carolina would give itself a 6-3 lead thanks to two decisions by sophomore Evan Sola at 133 and freshman Brian Baglio at 141. Sola, ranked 18th, improved his record to 28-7 and won his 12th-consecutive contest topping No. 17 Travis Drake.
The teams split the next two matches with Carolina junior John Paul Igoe losing 7-3 at 149, and senior Chris DiGuiseppe winning a 6-4 decision at 157.
The Mountaineers took the next pair of matches at 165 and 174, giving them a 12-9 edge with three matches to go.
Tar Heel sophomore Dusty Heist recorded the first pinfall of the afternoon at the 1:53 mark at 184, and then freshman David Dashiell narrowly escaped with a 3-2 win at 197.
The match was sealed by junior Ryan Adams, who picked up his fourth pin of the season at the 6:39 mark to improve to 20-6 this season.
