Carolina Softball Falls To South Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla.--The University of North Carolina softball team finished play at the Gator Classic Sunday morning with a 4-3 loss to South Florida in the tournament's consolation game. The Tar Heels return to Chapel Hill 1-4 on the season.
UNC lost 2-0 to South Florida on Friday in the tournament's first game and the season opener for Carolina. In Sunday's rematch, the Tar Heels held a 3-1 advantage before the Bulls scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
The Tar Heels totalled nine hits, led by junior outfielder Tiffany Tolleson, who was 3-for-4 at the plate and also had a pair of stolen bases. The Bulls got five hits off of UNC pitchers Shannon Walsh, Erica Ennis and Brandi Griffin.
UNC returns to action this weekend, hosting the Triangle Classic at Walnut Creek Park in Raleigh. The Tar Heels open play in the 21-team tournament Friday at 1 p.m. against George Mason. Play begins Friday at 11 a.m. and wraps up on Sunday afternoon.
