
Tar Heels Down Duke, 31-9

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wrestling team won all but two weight classes in a 31-9 trouncing of ACC-rival Duke at Carmichael Auditorium Tuesday night. The win lifted UNC to 5-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference, while the Blue Devils dropped to 1-8-1 overall, 0-1 in conference meets.
The Tar Heels blistered off to a 16-0 lead by taking victories in the first four matches. UNCs Clint Osborn took a 11-5 decision over Deagan Smith at 197 lbs., and UNCs Matt Kenny took a 13-4 major decision over Alex Hunt in the Heavyweight match. Tar Heel Skyler Holman improved to 27-2 on the year by taking a 6-2 decision over Tommy Hoang at 125 lbs., while sophomore Brad Byers recorded the Tar Heels only pin in 4:04 over Luke Palmisano at 133 lbs. Junior Josh Cowley returned to the mat for the first time this year and took a 5-2 decision over Dukes Andy Saliman at 149 lbs.
Other Tar Heels taking individual victories were Dennis Landin at 157 lbs., Jamie Groudle at 165 lbs. and Corey Bell at 174 lbs.
The Tar Heels will be back in action this weekend as they host Navy Saturday at 7 p.m. and Ohio University Sunday at 4 p.m. Both meets will be held at Carmichael Auditorium.
