No. 6 Nebraska Defeats No. 21 Tar Heel Wrestlers, 30-3

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Sixth-ranked Nebraska won nine of 10 matches and dominated the 21st-ranked North Carolina, 30-3, in collegiate wrestling action Saturday night at the Smith Center. The win, Nebraska's seventh in a row, improves the Cornhuskers to 16-5 on the season. Carolina fell to 9-4.
Nebraska's lineup featured wrestlers ranked in the top 15 nationally at eight of 10 weight classes, and the Cornhuskers won the first seven matches of the evening to jump out to a 24-0 lead.
Carolina got its win at 149 lbs. from ninth-ranked John Mark Bentley, who recorded an 8-2 decision over 13th-ranked Joe Henson. Tar Heel wrestlers recorded just four takedowns on the night, three by Bentley.
The most tightly contested match of the evening may have been at 125 lbs., where Nebraska's sixth-ranked Paul Gomez decisioned fifth-ranked Chuckie Connor. The loss snapped a 12-match winning streak for Connor, dropping him to 30-3 on the year.
The Tar Heels return to action when they visit Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
