Softball Sweeps East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. - North Carolina swept East Carolina in softball Wednesday to improve to 36-20. The record marks UNC's greatest number of wins since 1993, when the team finished 42-17. The Carolina victories broke a 12-game winning streak for East Carolina.
Carolina won the first game 6-1, piling up 10 hits to ECU's three. Sophomore shortstop Michelle Semmes hit a triple for the Tar Heels, while Crystal Henderson, Colleen Lefferts, Natalie Anter, Beth Olen and Jen Klesaris all doubled. Sophomore pitcher Radara McHugh struck out nine in earning her 23rd win of the season.
The Tar Heels took the second game 2-0, with sophomore Erin Joseph earning her fourth shutout of the season. Carolina scored in the third inning, on an RBI single from Lefferts, and again in the top of the seventh, on an RBI double from Klesaris, who was 2-for-3 at the plate.
UNC travels to Atlanta this weekend to take on Georgia Tech, with one game Saturday at 2 p.m. and one Sunday at 1 p.m.
